Best Friends

My sweet girl said something that brought tears to my eyes this week. She wrapped her tiny arms around my neck and whispered in my ear "Best friends. We're best friends Mommy." Sometimes being a mom makes you cry, sometimes being a mom makes you laugh, and sometimes being a mom takes your breath away. But being HER mommy ALWAYS makes me feel like the luckiest lady on the planet.

Much love,
Misty

Things I'm Looking Forward To:

1. Seeing pictures of Jay's first trip to Florida with the grandparents. She got to go to Disney World and couldn't stop talking about how she took a picture with Princess Tiana (her current favorite)

2. Finishing up my current section of my work rotation. While I appreciate the unique experience it has given me, the past 7 weeks have been extremely challenging and not very fun.

3. VACATION! T-minus 5 days and we will be headed home to enjoy some well-deserved time with our family and friends before Jerome and I head off to Las Vegas on the 12th.

4. VEGAS! Jerome has never been and I'm excited to share the experience with him. We're going to see a Cirque show while we're there and I can't wait!

5. Counting down until my girl's trip to Spain with my friend Sarah. Two months, 14 days and counting...

Here's hoping you all have something fabulous you're looking forward to!

Much love,

Misty

A pet is never truly forgotten until it is no longer remembered

Today we said goodbye for now to our beloved dog Milo.  He was my first baby and has been with me through the toughest times in my life.  When my husband would get frustrated with him for barking at the wind or not coming when he called, I would simply shrug and remind him that Milo had been with me long before he had and that we were a package deal.

My heart continues to break even as I type this and I will miss him terribly.

**Mommy loves you very much Milo.  You were such a good boy**

School's Out For Summer...

This past weekend we journeyed home to Missouri to attend my youngest sister Kaylyn's (or Auntie Kiki as Jay calls her) high school graduation.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that I'm probably one of the best big sisters of all times as I spent multiple hours hand gluing on 300+ sequins onto the top of her mortar board ONE AT A TIME.  I will admit that it was worth all of the time and effort (and glue-stained fingers) and her hat was the prettiest one at graduation.

On the way back to Memphis we stopped (as we often do) at Lambert's for some dinner.  It was a popular spot and we ended up having to wait about 40 minutes for a table, during which time Jay had a chance to ride the mechanical horse...

...and drive the covered wagon

The food was fantastic (as it always is) and the atmosphere was very fun (where else can you see a lady get hit in the face with a flying roll because she chose the most inopportune time to stand up?)

P.S--this is their idea of a "salad"

I hope everyone had wonderful weekends, and congratulations to all of the graduates (especially Auntie Kiki)!

Much love,

Nashville and Memphis in May (AKA Tsunami 2010)

This weekend we were blessed to be visited by some of our favorite people.  Heather and Jim, Erin and Paul, and my good friend Rachael came down to enjoy the Beale Street Music Festival (and eat some delicious, albeit unhealthy, food).

Jerome, Jay and I drove up to Nashville on Thursday night (I managed to get food poisoning at lunch that day so the ride was not so fun for me) in order to pick Rachael up at the airport early Friday morning.  We stayed at a very cute hotel called Hotel Preston close to the airport.  Very modern and "trendy", they had some cool art installations scattered throughout, my favorite of which was a dress made out of pink crayons.

After nabbing her from the airport, we enjoyed breakfast at a cute little diner called "Noshville"

Fantastic food.  I highly recommend stopping by if you happen to be in the Nashville area.  We basically shopped the day away and headed back to Memphis to wait for the rest of the gang to arrive.  With the appearance of Paul, Erin, Heather, and Jim also came the beginning of the storms (which lasted ALL WEEKEND and I refer to as Tsunami 2010).  We made the most of the bad weather by enjoying pulled pork sandwiches from the Germantown Commissary....
....and gearing up for a little puddle splashing

Despite the rain, we had a pretty fantastic time on Beale Street later that night

I'm so glad that everyone came down to visit and I hope that more of our friends have a chance to come experience Memphis before our time here is over.

I hope everyone had a blessed weekend and stayed as dry as possible!

Hello World!

Hello to anyone who managed to stumble across this (and mom, I hope you found it okay).  Welcome to my little blog and a glimpse inside the life of a small-town midwestern girl living life in the South.

My fabulous husband, beautiful daughter and I moved to Tennessee for my job, away from many people who we love.  This blog is my attempt to keep them (and anyone else who is interested) up to date with what we're up to....and a place for me to shamelessly post lots of pictures of the adorable J, my beautiful 2 year old (and the light of my life).

So I hope you enjoy--I'm glad you found us!
